THE young and promising Rhenzi Kylle Sevillano and National Master Merben Roque shared the honors being the 4 Central Squares 2nd Strike Chess Tournament’s biggest winners after topping their respective categories held last weekend in Robinson’s Fuente Osmena Event Center.
Sevillano, the top player of the University of San Carlos Basic Education Department and the winner of Grand Champion of Shell National Youth Active Chess Juniors and Kiddies titles, proved to be Cebu’s best young player as he topped Kiddies competition while Roque won the Open tournament respectively.
Sevillano was undefeated in all seven rounds, yielding only a draw on his final match when he was already out of reach to pocket the P3,000 championship prize and the championship trophy after scoring a 6.5 points after 7-Rounds.
Chris Aldritz Pondoyo of University of Cebu was the only player who prevented Sevillano from sweeping the competition after he scored a draw with the top seed in the final round.
