THE Alaska Aces try to prove their mastery over San Mig Coffee while Rain or Shine seeks a repeat win over Barako Bull today in the 39th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup elimination round at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Aces, who escaped with an 84-80 win over the Coffee Mixers in their first encounter last Nov. 22, are actually aiming for their fourth victory when they collide at 8 p.m.
Rain or Shine, on the other hand, a 99-95 overtime winner over Petron Blaze last Dec. 21, tries to strengthen its hold of the fourth spot as it faces Barako Bull at 5:45 p.m.
Coach Yeng Guiao's Elasto Painters expressed confidence that they can withstand the challenge of Barako Bull Energy Cola (3-6), whom they defeated, 91-83, in their first meeing on Dec. 1.
Coach Tim Cone’s Coffee Mixers will suit up in the match against Alaska coming from back-to-back victories for a 3-5 win-loss slate, which showed they have already recovered from the gruelling Governor's Cup championship series.
A win by San Mig would enable them to move into the upper half of the standing as they would tie Globalport (4-5) at the fifth position behind solo leader Ginebra (8-1), Petron (7-2), Talk 'N Text (6-2) and Rain or Shine (5-3).
But a loss by the Coffee Mixers will send them possibly into the eighth spot, just a notch higher from cellar dweller Air 21, which is toting a 2-8 record.
