SOME of the country’s toughest runners will join the 2014 Hardcore 100 miles ultramarathon on Jan. 31 to Feb. 1 at the Don Celestino Martinez Sr. Cultural and Sports Complex, Bogo City.
The race will start at 12:01 a.m. and will officially close at6:01 a.m. of Feb. 1.
Organizers expect fewer than 100 ultra runners in this lung-busting race, which requires participants to have finished at least one 100-kilometer race.
Race organizer Jonel Mendoza of Frontrunner magazine said this requirement will be for the safety of the participants. He also said that that multi-sport finishes, regardless of distance covered, are not honored.
During the race, there will be three cut-off times. The first cut-off will be after 15 hours and the participant should have already reached the 80-kilometer marker.
The second cut-off will be after 112 kilometers in Borbon Municipal Hall some 20 hours after the race. The last cut-off will be after 160 kilometers.
The registration started last Jan. 1, and will end on Jan. 27, 2014. The registration fee is P3,500 and includes a pre-race snacks and bib number for the runner and pacer.
According to Mendoza, those who will finish the race within the cut-off time will receive the commemorative finisher’s buckle, medal and shirt, post-race meal and drinks.
Meanwhile, the Cebu City Sports Center will host the Sinulog Fun Run on Dec. 30.
The run is part of the sidelights of the Sinulog of Celebration and will feature a men’s and women’s 5K run.
The run will start from the CCSC passing through the Sinulog carousel route and is expected to attract 500 runners.
