Kawasan Marathon returns in March-A A +A
Saturday, December 28, 2013
AFTER skipping out this year, the biggest-out-of-town running event is back. The Kawasan Falls Marathon (KFM), with its third edition on March 23. It will start and finish at the old Badian Chapel in Matutinao, Badian, Cebu.
Aside from the men’s and women’s 42K and 21K, organizers this year are adding the 12K division.
According to marathon veteran Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III, they have decided to put up another category because of public demand. All of the finishers in the three categories will also receive a finisher’s medal.
“It was a request from most the family members of those doing the half and full marathons,” said Larrazabal.
In the 2012 edition, the race attracted 1,000 runners and all slots were sold out. Larrazabal hopes to do the same in the 2014 edition and there will be 250 slots each in the three categories.
The race in Kawasan started in 2010 but was cancelled this year due to the May election.
Larrazabal assures the participants that they will once again enjoy the scenic coastal route and the first 1,500 meters will be a challenging uphill climb.
The early registration period will open on Jan. 15 and will end on Feb. 15. Registration fee is P500 for 12K, P700 for 21K and P900 for 42K. After Feb 15, the regular fees will be P700 for the 12K, P900 for the 21K and P1,100 for the 42K.
Runners may sign up at the Center for Sight and Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital or through the Run for Sight Foundation website.
