Edsel, Jeffu get the cash-A A +A

EDSEL Montoya and Jeffu Durog topped their categories in the 4 Central Squares 3rd Strike Chess Tournament held last Saturday and Sunday at the Robinson’s Cybergate Event Center inFuente Osmeña oval.
Montoya topped the Open tournament, which was participated by 78 players while Durog won the 56-field Kiddies competition.
Montoya got the highest tie-break points to break a four-way tie that involved Ramil
Wadim, Wilhelm Joey Ardiente and Erwin Ababat. They all finished the 7-Round Swiss System tournament with six points.
Montoya had 30 tb points to top the tournament and brought home the championship trophy and a share of the P10,000 cash prizes for the first to the fourth placers.
Ceferino Vizco and Romulo Pialan shared the 5th and 6th places after finishing with 5.5 points each, while nine players that include Allan Salientes, Felix Shaun Balbona, Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Rosendo Yamyamin, Venancio Loyola Jr., Alfer Fernandez, Vincent Balena, Edwin Cablao and Mark Nino Mangubat shared the 7th to the 15th places to share the P2,500 cash prize.
Airene Robillos and Jessa Marie Balbona, on the other hand, shared the Top Female performer title after scoring 4.5 points each.
Durog, on the other hand, was the solo winner of the P3,000 cash prize and the championship trophy after scoring a total of 6.5 points after the 7-Round tournament.
Placing behind were Glybel Jane Quinanola (6), Chris Aldritz Pondoyo (6), Vic Gylsen Derotas (5), Jerish John Velarde (5), James Andrew Balbona (5), Edel Vosotros (5), Rejel Clyd Perandos (5.0), James Fernando Diloy (5) and Jasper Calimbo (5). Quinanola was also the Top Female performer and received an additional cash prize on top of her share of the P3,000 combined prize for the send and third placers.
