Big men’s game-A A +A

CEBUANO slotman and Petron Blaze Boosters center June Mar Fajardo is in danger of losing the Best Player of the Conference to the sensational Japeth Aguilar of Barangay Ginebra Kings due to his injury.
In his rookie year, Fajardo also lost the Rookie of the Year title to Alaska Aces workhorse Calvin Abueva because of an early injury and his limited playing time.
Now that he is already taking the lead in the statistical points after eight games, Fajardo may lose another individual achievement in his sophomore year.
“Wala nako na huna-hunaa. Ang gusto lang nako nga makatabang sa team nga modaug.
Akong main goal nga makadaug ang akong team og championship. Ang individual award wala gyud sa akong huna-huna,” Fajardo told Sun.Star Cebu.
Because he is on sickbay, the 6’10” Fajardo is just a 2.3 Statistical Points (SPs) ahead over Aguilar who has 41.2 SPs in 10 games.
Fajardo injured his knee when he accidentally stepped on his teammate Doug Kramer’s foot in practice last Dec. 23, just days before Petron faced its fancied sister squad Ginebra Kings.
The Pinamungajan, Cebu native is leading the league in rebounding with 17.25 rebounds per game. He is also sixth in points with 15.5 per game and is second in blocks with 3.0 per game though eight games.
Because of a strained MCL on his right knee, Fajardo has missed two games, including the much-awaited Dec. 25 game against Ginebra when he was supposed to face fellow Cebuano center and this year’s no.1 rookie pick Gregg Slaughter.
More people are afraid that Fajardo will continue to sit out until the end of the elimination round but Petron head coach Gee Abanilla is hoping his prized center would suit up when the Boosters play the Barako Bull Energy Cola on Jan. 8.
“Gusto ko makabalik na kog duwa. Nag-improve na man ang condition sa akong tuhod. For now, ingon ang amo doctor sa Petron nga basin makaduwa na ko against Barako sa Jan. 8,” he said.
