THE Salimbangon siblings hope to make an impressive finish in the 25th Andrada Cup Division I Junior Tennis Championships at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Kristin Renee “Kara” and Cesar Kristofer “Zak” of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-ADC) failed to finish in their previous campaign as they had to rush home to be with their mother Rhoanne, who gave birth.
“Their mom gave birth to their youngest sister so we need to fly back. Hopefully, this year, they will be able to win in this tournament to help improve their Philippine Tennis (Philta) ranking,” said Ken Salimbangon.
Kara will be playing in the Girls 14 and 16 under, while Zak will be in the Boys 12-Under division.
Kara is ranked no. 11 in the girls 14 under and no. 18 in the 16 under, while Kristofer is second in the Boys 10 and at no. 18 in the Boys 12.
“ Our target for this year is for Zak to secure the no.1 spot in the Philta ranking in the 10 under, and for him to achieve that he has to play more Group 1 tournaments.
This will be his last playing year in this division while Kara hopes to perform well in all of her Girls 14 tournaments and get a chance to play in an ATF tournament,” said Salimbangon.
Salimbangon said that the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) would be a good exposure for Kara to improve her skills.
Other Cebuanos in the Andrada Cup are Zethley Mae Alferez of Bright Academy and Arthur Craig “Iggy” Pantino of University of San Carlos Basic Education Department.
Salimbangon said that Alferez is Cebu’s top contender in the 14-under girls.
Pantino, on other hand, is making a comeback after missing 2013 as he was campaigning in the US.
