ABOUT 250 slots will be offered in this year’s third edition of the All-Women Ultra Marathon (Awum) 2014 set on March 8.

The registration officially opens today.

The event is a 50k ultra-marathon run, accepting only women participants in line with the celebration of the International Women’s Month in March.

Last year, it offered 150 slots, which were sold out in four hours.

Organizer Think Tank group, which is spearheaded by Dr. Wilfredo B. Estepa, decided to increase the number of participants this year accommodate more runners, especially those coming from out of town.

“The registration officially opens tomorrow, but we already have several out-of-town ultra runners from Bacolod, Davao and Bukidnon that made early registration because, last year, the slots were sold out in just four hours. So these runners want to make sure that they can join this year’s edition,” said Estepa.

Estepa said they will still be using the same route, which will start in Cebu City and will cross Mandaue City, and will have its turning point in Consolacion town. The plan is to have the race end in Mactan Island.

Last year, the race was won by Jade Abellana, who will be signing up to defend her title, said Estepa.

Estepa said Cebu has about 60 running groups and 25 of these will be in-charge of the hydration and food stations, which will be put up every two kilometers. There will also be aid stations as well.

“The cut-off time will be 10 hours and the finishers will be receiving a finishers’ medal and a T-shirt. We are planning to give out surprises and tokens for our finishers,” said Estepa.

The registration fee is pegged at the P1,500 and registration sites will be at Runnr-Ayala and at the Clinica Melga in Fuente Circle Cebu.
