LJ Go had his worst round with a 4 over 76, but thanks to his strong showing in the first three days, the Cebuano held on to win the 2014 Philippine Amateur Open golf championship by an impressive 11 strokes over Jobim Carlos.

Go, a freshman at Seton Hall, had a four-day haul of 291, while second placer Jobim Carlos vaulted to second with a 72 in the final day to finish with 302.

Defending champion and erstwhile second placer Jerome Ng sputtered with a final round 80 to settle for third place, while Gen Nagai, who is from Cebu International School, vaulted from eighth to fourth place with a 73 in the final round.

Nagai, who is also from the Cebu Country Club like Go, finished at 304, hitting his best rounds of 74 and 73 in the final two days.

On the other hand, Go had a 36 in the front nine and had two straight birdies in the 13th and 14th before disaster struck.

The Cebuano, who like Nagai helped CCC retain its title in the PAL Interclub, had four straight bogeys in his last four holes to end up with 76, his worst round after hitting 72, 72 and 71 in the first three rounds.

Despite the ugly finish, Go was never threatened as he was already seven shots clear of Ng going in the final day and the former champion blew his chances after hitting 40 in the first nine holes.
