MORE than 1,000 runners are expected to join the Cebu Holdings, Inc. (CHI) Fast Forward Faster: The Silver Run set this coming Feb. 2 at the Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu.
The run is part of CHI’s 25th anniversary celebration and was originally scheduled last Dec. 1 but due to super typhoon Yolanda that struck the entire Visayas and left around four million persons homeless, CHI felt it best to move the race and refocus their fund drive for the victims of Yolanda.
“Supposedly, this was scheduled last year in line with our 25th anniversary celebration last Dec. 9, but due to Yolanda, we decided to move it and channel our resources to the victims of Yolanda. However, our effort doesn’t end there. We have done the relief operations and now we are in the rebuilding or rehabilitation phase and we will make this run as an avenue to raise funds for the victims of the calamities,” said CHI president Francis Monera.
Monera was joined by CHI’s corporate communication and CSR division head Vera Alejandria, ABS-CBN Cebu’s Sagip Kapamilya’s Leo Lastimosa and SAFE technical director Joel Baring during yesterday’s press conference at the Laguna Garden Cafe.
Monera added that the registration proceeds will be allocated for the rehabilitation project in the northern part of Cebu, particularly in Barangay Bagay in the municipality of Daanbantayan, Cebu through Agbayay sa Komunidad and ABS-CBN Cebu’s Sagip Kapamilya.
They have identified Brgy. Bagay as their beneficiary community because it is located at the tip of the island and relief operations rarely reach that area.
According to CHI’s corporate communications manager, Atty. Jeanette Japzon, they will also be planting mangroves in the area.
“Aside from the fishing equipment, we will also be planting 25,000 mangrove seedlings because it will help lessen effects of a storm surge,” said Japzon.
