BUILDING new homes for typhoon Yolanda survivors in Bogo City in is the main goal of SM Foundation Inc. when they hold the SM2SM Run 4 on Feb. 16 in SM City-Cebu.

The race, which will start from SM City Cebu and will pass by the San Pedro Calungsod Chapel and SM Seaside City-Cebu at the South Road Properties is expected to draw 4,000 runners. It will have the 21K, 12K, 6K and 3K divisions.

“Aside from the Cebu Marathon, the SM2SM Run is the most awaited 21K run in Cebu and on Feb. 16 we will be bringing back the race from SM City Cebu to the SM Seaside City and back. We invite the Cebuano runners, especially the running clubs, to take part of this event because our main beneficiaries for this year are the typhoon survivors of Bogo City. Parts of the proceeds will go to the (rebuilding effort,)” said SM Prime Holdings Inc. vice president Marissa Fernan in a press conference held at Radisson Blu Hotel yesterday.

Fernan announced that SMFI is the first to heed the call of Bogo City mayor Celestino Martinez Jr. for the adopt-a-barangay rebuilding efforts to build 200 row houses for Barangay Pulang-Bato.

“This is a worthwhile cause and I encouraged running groups to join and avail the run-to-name-a-house program where a group or company can have the right to name a certain house. SMFI is aiming to raise P1.6 million for this rebuilding program,” Fernan said.

Aside from the typhoon victims in Bogo, the run’s other beneficiaries are the Street Children Foundation and the Cebu Newspaper Workers Foundation (Cenewof).

A total of P288,000 in cash prizes will be rewarded with the top 3 men’s and women’s champions of the 21K getting the lion share. The champions will get P50,000 each, while the second and third placers will pocket P30,000 and P20,000, respectively.

They will also have the Couple Category for the 12K and 21K divisions with the top 3 finishers winning an overnight stay at Raddison Blu Hotel and gift certificates from SM City.

Timing chips are also available for the 21K and 12K runners.

Registration fee is P750 for the 21K, P600 for 12K, P350 for both the 6K and 3K runners.

Special discounts are given to students who will run in the 6K and 3K and a 10 plus 1 package is given to a group of runners.
