FOUR Cebuanos will represent the country in the 15th Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championships on Feb. 10 to 16 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The four are Hever Alqueza, Gefphil Buyco, Xyrra Cabusas and Gwyneth Marie Silva and were selected from a pool of players of Prima Cebu.
The rest of the 12 members of Team Philippines are from Manila.
Silva, 15, of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo De Cebu, is the youngest bet from Cebu and hopes to give all her best in this tournament.
The event is organized by the Asian Bowling Federation and gathers the top bowlers of Asia.
“Gwynn is the youngest in the team and the least experienced having returned to bowling in less than a year after a two-year hiatus.
She was also selected for winning her age group division the last three quarters in Cebu,” said Ramir Francis, the father of Silva.
Ramir also added that Silva’s teammates are seasoned players and have competed in both national and international tournaments.
“This is Gwynn’s first major tournament. I think she is being realistic in her goals and expectation. She doesn’t expect to win or qualify to the masters tournament. Her goal is to cherish the opportunity and experience this level of competition,” said Ramir Francis.
However Ramir Francis hopes that her daughter will have a decent showing so she can get a chance to compete in more prestigious tournament with better chances of winning.
