CEBUANO center Junemar Fajardo lost his grip on his lead for the PLDT my DSL-PBA Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference (BPC) race after sitting out for three games and a “below par” two games when he got back from injury.
Fajardo, who had a good lead in the race after leading Petron Blaze Boosters to seven straight wins that gave the San Miguel flagship franchise an early 7-0 win-loss slate, lost his hold of the BPC to Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings forward Japeth Aguilar as the elimination round ended.
The Pinamungajan, Cebu giant slowly lost his lead to Aguilar when he was sidelined for three games following a sprained MCL right knee last Dec. 25.
Although the former University of Cebu center returned to active duty last Jan. 10 in Petron’s 98-87 win over GlobalPort Batang Pier before losing to sister team San Mig Coffe Super Mixers last Wednesday, it was only last Saturday when the Boosters faced Meralco that Fajardo was back to performing 100 percent to lead the team to a 96-87 win over the Bolts.
After 14 elimination round games, Fajardo’s statistical points improved to 40.36 trailing to Aguilar’s 40.92 in 13 games.
Another Cebuano giant and former UV Green Lancers Gregg Slaughter also of Ginebra has the best third SPs with 36.77, while Petron’s Arwind Santos at fourth place with 35.57 and Talk ‘N Text’s Jayson Castro 34.61.
In the overall efficiency, Fajardo also trailed 43.60 to 44.11 and was followed by Jay Washington of GlobalPort with 40.84; Castro with 39.72 and Slaugther with 39.23.
However, despite his three game absence and “below par”two games, Fajardo is still the league’s best rebounder with an average of 15.55 rebounds per game, placed 11th in scoring with 15.09 per and no.2 in blocks with 2.45 average in games.
