THE City of Bogo will be playing host in the Bogo 8080 Triathlon race set in May.
Bogo was among the communities in northern Cebu, which were badly damaged by the super typhoon Yolanda last year. As part of their efforts to rise after that devastation, they are rebuilding homes as well as its tourism through sports.
The race will also serve as a fund- raising activity for the rebuilding of Bogo.It will be a held a week before the town’s fiesta celebration.
The race will feature a distance of 1.8K swim, 65K bike and 14K run. There will also be a 900-meter swim, 32.5K bike and 7K run route.
According to Cornestone group member Ripples Faelnar, the group behind the successful Run to Rebuild Bogo held last Sunday in Parkmall, the run and the triathlon race will be among the events they will be organizing in Bogo as part of promoting the town.
“We have an advocacy in sports as well; aside from organizing races for a cause, making our events a way to promote the town, we felt that we need to deliver quality races too,” said Faelnar.
Faelnar said that aside from organizing races, they will also be conducting sports clinics not only in Bogo but in Negros, Cebu, Bohol and Davao as well.
Providing sports clinics will also be in line with Bogo's sports grassroots program with Mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez Jr.’s vision of producing top-caliber athletes aside from becoming a sports haven in the north of Cebu.
