AFTER breezing through his first 24 opponents, unbeaten Arthur Villanueva will once again be tested against former world title challenger and currently world rated Juan Hernandez in the co-main event of Pinoy Pride 24 – “The Future is Now” on March 1 at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Manila.

“It’s going to be Villanueva’s biggest test. These opponents are what will define (Genesis) Servania and Villanueva’s careers. It is for this reason that Pinoy Pride 24 was titled as ‘The Future is Now’ because of the opponents. It will be a make-or-break fight for their respective careers,” ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu.

The 22-year-old Genesis Servania is fighting in the main event against what could be his toughest opponent in former world champion Alexander Muñoz. He will be defending his World Boxing Organization (WBO) inter continental super bantamweight belt in this fight.

Villanueva is also placing at stake his WBO International super flyweight crown against Hernandez, who is moving up in weight.

Hernandez is currently rated No. 11 in World Boxing Council (WBC), No. 7 in both the WBO and International Boxing Federation (IBF) as a light flyweight.

The 26-year-old Mexican has fought the cream of the crop in the lower weight divisions. He has wins over interim WBO light flyweight champion Moises Fuentes, Denver Cuello and Lorenzo Trejo; and lost to current World Boxing Association (WBA) light flyweight king Kazuto Ioka and former world champion Ramon Garcia.

The 25-year-old Villanueva passed with flying colors against former world title contender Arturo Badillo, who he stopped in the fourth round last year. He is off a first round knockout over Mexican Edgar Martinez last October.

Hernandez, on the other hand, was knocked out in the eighth round by Garcia in July but bounced back with decision win over Saul Juarez.

Villanueva is 24-0 with 14 knockouts, while Hernandez is 23-3 with 16 knockouts.
