Visitors edge locals in 4x4 Offroad Challenge

OUT-of-town offroaders ruled the opening leg of the Maxxis 4x4 Cup Extreme Offroad Challenge Calendar 2014 held at the South Reclamation Properties last weekend.

Edison Dungca of Kapampangan Racing Team, Red Diwa of Isabela Extreme and Jodax Daquil of 4Wheelers Davao took the top three spots in the Open Division in the opening leg of the year-round, 12-leg series that will be held nationwide.

Dungca finished the three-track course in 11 minutes and 38.44 seconds to win first place. Diwa had a total time of 12 minutes and 43.24 seconds, while Daquil made it in 14:25.04.

However, Cebuano off-road drivers did not go home empty-handed as they ruled the novice division.

Bebot and Pedoy Cabahug placed first and second after completing the two-track competition ahead of the rest.

Bebot Cabahug finished his quest in five minutes and 25.9 seconds, while Pedoy Cabahug finished in 5:37.7. The third place went to Botoy Gamallo, who finished the course in 5:48.3.

Aside from the Kapampangan Racing Team, Isabela Extreme and 4Wheelers Davao, the other team that participated in the two-day race organized by North Trend Marketing Corp. were Javier Off-road Club, Landcruiser Club of the Philippines, Dipolog Unlimited Off Road and Cebu Off-Road Club.

After Cebu City, the race will got to Koronadal City in South Cotabato on March 8-9; Davao City on March 23 and 24; Candon City in Ilocos Norte in April 26-27; Laoag City also in Ilocos Norte in May 3-4; Naga City in Camarines Sur on May 24-25; Tacloban City in Leyte on June 28-29; Dipolog City in July; back to Davao City on Aug. 2-3; Tuguegarao City in Cagayan on Augut 16-17; Digos City in September; Dumaguete City in October; Angeles City in Pampanga in Nov. 29-30; and the final leg the Tough Truck Challenge 14 on Dec. 5 and 7.
