CEBU’s pro mountain-biker Nino Surban is eyeing to improve his sixth place overall finish in the men’s open of the Criterium Night Race of the OCBC Cycling this March 28-31 at the F1 Pit Building in Singapore.

Last year, it was topped by Tjarco Cuppens of Netherlands.

Surban said he will be racing on a road bike, which is not the usual bike on which he trains.

“I usually train using my mountainbike. I am not really expecting to top this race, but I am after the exposure, which will help me improve,” said Surban.

Last year, Surban made an impressive performance in all of his six international races: seventh in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games (Seagames) in Myanmar; 25th spot in the Langkawi Mountainbike Challenge; the championship title in the Iskandar Johor Mega Ride in Malaysia; and 20th in the men’s open of the Yawatahama International Mountainbike Challenge in Japan.

This year, Surban sets his eyes on several international races.

He hopes to join the Yawatahama race again, then the 2014 JFC/MTB Japan Series in Fujimi Panorama and most of all in the Asean Games in Korea.

“I haven’t competed in the Asean Games. Four years ago, it was in Qatar, and there was no mountainbike competition because of the flat surface. Hopefully, this year, the Philippine Cycling Federation will be sending a team and that I will be included in the line-up,” said Surban.
