NOT ONLY will some of the best footballers in the country along with two football legends play against each other in the biggest football exhibition in the Philippines but a few amateur players will join the fray in a match of a lifetime.
Cebuano footballers 17 years old and older will have a chance to join the stars of the United Football League (UFL) and two former Manchester United standouts in the third installment of Clear Dream Match on June 7.
“This is the biggest All-Star game in the Philippines. We will make it bigger this year. This will be the best quality of football we can offer,” Clear brand manager Drew Copuyoc said in a press conference at Patio Isabel.
Four tryouts have been slated in four different areas in the country – Cebu City, Iloilo City, Davao City and Manila. The Cebu City tryouts will be on March 21 at the Aboitiz Sports Field at 6 a.m.
Interested footballers can register online at cleardreammatch.com.ph or at the Cebu FA office.
The best eight players from each tryout venue will be picked for a total of 32 players that will be joining a three-day camp by the Manchester United coaches on April 25 to 27. The top six players chosen will be joining Team Phil (Younghusband) and Team James (Younghusband) in an exhibition match with some two football legends.
“Amatuer football players will have their dreams come true,” said Copuyoc.
It won’t be the amateur footballers only that will have a once in a lifetime experience but also the UFL players because they get to share the same pitch with two English legends of the beautiful game of football.
Manchester United legends Paul Scholes and Andy Cole will reinforce Team Phil and Team James for the exhibition match.
“The chance to play with them (Scholes and Cole) is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Pachanga FC striker and former national team player Nate Burkey. “It’s an honor and a pleasure to share the same field with them.”
Last year, legends Dennis Wise and Fabio Cannavaro joined the exhibition match.
Filipino-Spanish player Carli de Murga, who plays for Ceres FC and the Azkals, is also ecstatic to play with the two retired football standouts.
“I would like to play with Paul Scholes but I would also like to play against him because he scored a goal that knocked out (FC) Barcelona in the Champions League. It would be my personal revenge,” de Murga quipped.
