THE favorites stamped their class in the semifinals of the Aboitz Cup men’s open, scoring lopsided wins yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field.

After guiding the Don Bosco Technological Center to the Under 23 crown, coach Glenn Ramos now has a chance for the men’s open title after the University of Cebu-Bro blanked the San Roque Rehab United, 5-0, in the quarterfinals.

Enf Famous scored two goals while Charles Emeji, Tolar and Emmanuel Arigbe had one each for the squad that is boosted by the Nigerian students of UC.

UC-BRO will face another foreigner-laden squad, Samba in the semifinals.

Samba, which also features African students of Southwestern University, blanked Erco FC, 2-0, thanks to goals by Ahmed Hilobil in the 10th minute and Musa in the 90th minute.

Defending champion Queen City United also advanced after a 7-0 rout of the Avengers.

Madi Taniform opened the scoring in the 15th minute and Aljhohn Armamento made it 2-0 four minutes later. In the second half, things got worse for the Avengers as they conceded four goals in a 12-minute span.

Niji Cyrille made it 3-0 in the 54th and Pintho Kabulo scored the fourth goal in the 64th minute. Dan Villarico and Junard Aguilar banked in back-to-back goals in the 65th and 66th and Jonny Davidson made it 7-0 in the 75th.

Queen City will face Leylam in the semifinals next Saturday. Leylam got a 3-0 win the easy way after the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Alumni was forced to forfeit its match yesterday.

USJ-R will be playing in the Prisaa national meet next week.

Meanwhile, DBTC dominated the individual awards in the U23 division with Christopher Ngwanta winning the top scorer with eight goals. Famous, who also plays for UC-Bro, was the MVP, while Ezekpenzy Musa was named the best defender and Jay Vicen got the best keeper award.

John Michael Tasa of Subangdako prevented a sweep after winning the best midfielder award.
