CEBUANOS Jade Becaldo and Edward Ybañez will represent the country in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) in Thailand next month.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) beach volleyball consultant Eric LeCain said that the last time that the country sent a team in an AVC tournament was in 2010 and he hopes the Cebuanos will have an impressive showing in the country’s first stint in four years.
“They have been training well. We are trying to push the guys to push themselves beyond their limits as they will face teams from Asian and Oceania countries,” said LeCain.
LeCain added that the two players have been practicing almost every day and have been working on their teamwork.
“Edward and Jade have not played much together so they have a lot to learn in a short period of time. They key is getting used to playing teams. We don’t have any 6’6” guys to play against so we have to improvise a lot in the practice,” said LeCain.
Becaldo and Ybanez recently received citations in the Sportswriters Association of Cebu-San Miguel Beer Sports Awards for their success in 2013.
Becaldo teamed up with Mike Abria to win back-to-back titles in the National Nestea Beach Volleyball Championship, while Ybanez teamed up with Jonrey Sasing to win back-to-back titles in the Philippine National Games (PNG).
According to Becaldo, they will leave on April 7.
