CEC upsets USC in Alaska Cup-A A +A

CEBU Eastern College (CEC) scored a huge upset after a convincing victory over unbeaten University of San Carlos (USC) Green in the Alaska Basketball Cup Cebu 2014 last weekend at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Lux Oriens Gym.
CEC kicked USC Green out of the tournament with a 67-57 victory in the Division 1 Under-16 semi-finals.
CEC took an early 24-8 lead after the first quarter. But USC Green would climb its way back up trimmed CEC’s lead to eight points at halftime. USC Green closed in on CEC and the lead was just two points, 40-38, going into the final quarter.
However, Denzel Sabroso carried his team on his shoulders and scored 14 points in the fourth.
In the other Division 1 Under-16 semifinals, University of the Visayas (UV) walked away with a thrilling 74-68 double overtime win over home team SHS-AdC.
After trailing 20 points at halftime, SHS-AdC slowly crawled back up sweet three-point shooting of Niño Araw-Araw. He dropped five triples in third quarter to keep SHS-AdC going and trimmed down the lead to just 12. Araw-Araw would consistently hit from beyond the arc sinking four more in the fourth. Hans Mesina would tie the game at 61-all to send it to overtime.
The first overtime ended at 63-all.
Orlans Wamar would lead his team in the second overtime for the win.
In the Division 2 Under-16 semi-finals, unbeaten Don Bosco-B crushed CEC-B, 57-29; while UV-B was victorious against SHS-AdC B, 41-35.
In Division 1 of the Under-13 age class, Holy Spirit outmatched SHS-AdC, 38-33 and beat USC Gold later that day. Holy Spirit would bow down to USC Green, 43-40, the following day.
