CV strong in Prisaa

THE Region 7 men’s and women’s volleyball teams are on a winning streak as they won their tournaments on the second day of action of the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) National Games at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex.

The men’s team, composed of University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) players, outwitted the team of Region 5, 25-22, 25-16, 25-10.

The win was earned by the spiking Jaguars’ key players, such as Mark Kevin Petanciano, Kevin Labay, Paolo Perez, Jerson Owen Belen, Kent Jay Verbocidad and Jade Illut.

“The team was in top condition; they played well. Good combination play plus good first touch made the team perform at its best,” said USJR head coach Grace Antigua.

In beach volleyball, the women’s team composed of University of Southern Philippines Foundation’s (USPF) Rochelle Rica, Southwestern University’s (SWU) Floremel Rodriguez and Canete of the Bohol Institute of Technology won without breaking a sweat against Caraga Region via forfeit.

The men’s team, composed of University of the Visayas (UV) player Mark Anthony Fernandez, USPF Edmar Bonono and SWU Rommel Pepito, pummeled Western Visayas, 21-12,21-11.

In swimming, Loren Dale “Gusty” Echavez of the University of San Carlos (USC) continued to rake in gold medals in all of her events, the 800 free,100 free and 4x50 relay.

In secondary athletics, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu continued to collect medals behind Enrico Avila winning the gold medals in 100m, 200m and 400m, and Justin Liam Chiongbian winning silver in the 1500m.

In the secondary girls, Leanna Angela Ramos won silver in the 800m silver and a bronze medal in the 400m. Carmela Therese Dublin won the silver medal in 100m, bronze in the 200m. Brittney Moira Cañete winning bronze in the 100m and Shanelle Demilys Siasoyco won the gold medals in the Shotput and discus throw.
