ADAMS Mohammad was unstoppable from start to finish and returning Cameroonian center Justin Aboude dominated the middle with ease to lead the Southwestern University Cobras to an emphatic 112-65 win over Raphael’s Café to top the elimination round of the 1st Mayor Lanie Peña Cup Basketball tournment held at the Minglanilla Sports Complex last Thursday.

Adams scattered 24 points to lead all scorers, while Aboude stepped up in the absence of fellow Cameroonian center Landry Sanjo by finishing with 20 points.

SWU started the onslaught with a 22-9 blast in the opening quarter and virtually wrapped the game up with a 26-15 blitz in the second to post a 48-24 lead at the halftime break.

Raphael’s Café came up with a brilliant third period as they outscored the 2013 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) runner-up 28-27 but the might of the Cobras could not be denied as SWU went full throttle in the final period en route to a lopsided victory.

Nigerian Emmanuel Ojoula topscored for Raphael’s Café with 14 points.

SWU set up a titular showdown with the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers after the Mandaluyong City-based squad defeated the 10-time Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers 85-70 in the main game.

Last Tuesday, the Raul Alcoseba-mentored Cobras defeaed the Vergel Meneses coached Heavy Bombers 69-53 in their elimination round encounter.

Michael Mabulac topscored for JRU with 15 points, while Cameroonian Steve Cedric Akomo scored 18 for UV.

SWU and JRU were set to battle for the P30,000 champions’ prize late last night, while UV and Raphael’s Café were vying for the P10,000 cash prize for the third placer.

The losing finalists will pocket P20,000 while the fourth placer team will get P5,000.
