NONITO Donaire Jr. starts sparring at the ALA Gym for a world title fight next month.

Donaire Jr. sparred with unbeaten ALA Gym-based Cuban boxer Reymi Castellano Aleyi for three rounds at the ALA Gym.

“He has the ability but his condition still is not a hundred percent. He sparred with Reymi Castellano Aleye for three rounds because he has a similarity with his opponent.

We also offered Albert Pagara and (Mark) Jessel Magsayo so that he will have a variety in sparring,” ALA Gym head trainer Edito Villamor told Sun.Star Cebu.

Donaire Jr. is gunning for a third division world title as he challenges World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka on May 31 at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort in Macau.

Donaire Jr. along with his father Nonito Donaire Sr. is setting up camp until the end of the month at the ALA Gym.

After suffering a unanimous decision loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux, Donaire Jr. had a successful comeback knocking out longtime rival Vic Darchinyan in the ninth round last Nov. 9 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Cristi, Texas.

Donaire Jr. is gunning for his fifth division crown. He is a world champion in flyweight, super flyweight, bantamweight and super bantamweight divisions.

Vetyeka, 33, captured the WBA featherweight strap after beating one of the division’s best Chris John by a sixth round stoppage last Dec. 6 in Australia.

Vetyeka also defeated another prominent Indonesian boxer also last year, a 12th round technical knockout over Daud Cino Yordan, winning the International Boxing Organization featherweight belt in the process.

Donaire Jr. will have another session of sparring today at the ALA Gym.

The 31-year-old Donaire Jr. is 32-2 with 21 knockouts, while Vetyeka is 26-2 with 16 knockouts.
