THE Go Active Marketing and Events Inc.(Game) will be hosting a road duathlon dubbed as the Duraman Duathlon Series on June 15 at the New Toledo City Hall.

This will be the first event for Game. The group is made up of experienced organizers, who have been hosting duathon, triathlon, and mountainbike events.

Game is promoting Duraman, a duathlon competition, as their trademark event.

They will have two series this year, the one which is booked in June, and an off-road duathlon in October.

“We have chosen Toledo City since it has good roads, long stretches and it’s positioning itself to be tourism a hub. We are hoping to bring in sports tourism in Toledo,” said Jerome Mil.

He added that they are expecting more than 100 participants for the first leg.

The categories will be the men and women, and open age divisions in the standard and sprint distances.

The standard distance will have a 10-kilometer run, 40K bike and 5K run, while sprint will have 5K run, 20K bike and 2.5K run. The organizers also have created the roadbike/tribike, mountainbike, and folding bike categories for the sprint distances.

Leo Oracion, the only Filipino mountain biker who competed in the Grand Raid marathon, and who climbed Mount Everest, is the event’s race consultant.

The top three finishers in the standard division will receive P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.

There will be customized trophies for the champions and medals for the runners-up.

The registration fee is at P1,600 for the standard distance category and P1,400 in the sprint distance category. The registration is ongoing until June 10 at the Rudy Project Store in Ayala. Online registrations are also accepted at sugbutriathlon.com.

Meanwhile, Game will also hold a long distance cross country duathlon this year in northern and southern parts of Cebu.

This will serve as a qualifier for Switzerland’s Grand Raid mountainbike marathon in August next year.

The men’s and women’s category champion of the cross-country event will be sent to Switzerland to compete in Grand Raid, with all expense paid for by Game.

Mil said that in order to join the long-distance cross-country race, racers need to join the Duraman Duathlon first. (RSC)
