USPF finally wins Nestea men’s title-A A +A

EDMAR Bonono and Edward Ybañez of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation bag the men’s title of the 17th National Nestea Beach Volleyball Battle of Champions yesterday at the Boracay Beach Chalets in Station 2 in Boracay.
Bonono and Ybañez beat Hachaliah Gilbuena and Jhonrel Amora of the University of Mindana-Tagum, 21-14, 21-12.
“This is our first national champion. Kadaghan jud ang USPF ni attempt but finally we made it,” said USPF head coach Cecil Jotojot, whose team finished third last year. “They gave their best in this game and managed to finish the match in two sets. Dili kaayo sila pressured.”
Bonono and Ybañez advanced to the finals after beating Relan Taneo and Rommel Pepito of Southwestern University (SWU) in the semifinals, while UMT advanced after beating defending champion Jade Becaldo and Mark Anthony Ferandez of the University of the Visayas.
In the battle for third, UV won against SWU.
In the women’s finals, Kim Fajardo and Victoria Galang of De La Salle University won against Adamson University’s Shiela Pineda and Amanda Villanueva, 15-21, 21-14, 17-15.
In the battle for third, SWU’s Therese Ray Ramas and Floremel Rodriguez beat three-time champion Fiola Mae Ceballos and Valerie Jen Amar of Central Philippines University, 21-18, 21-14. (ISL)
