CEBUANO triathlete John Philip Dueñas will try to nail back-to-back titles in the men’s standard category in the second year of Dipolog Triathlon 101 tomorrow in Dipolog City.
Dueñas, who is aiming to improve on his bike, won the first year of the Dipolog Triathlon via a strong run.
“I banked on my run to win the event last year. I had a good bike ride but I want to improve more to add versatility to my game,” Dueñas said.
Dueñas said the Dipolog Triathlon had a great race route last year.
“The swim and the run was at the boulevard, the run had four loops which you can measure the distance between you and the opponents. The bike had four loops as well,” Dueñas said.
Meanwhile, Mary Joy Tabal and Keith Ocampo will team up with Polanco Mayor Pinpin Uy to defend their team relay standard distance championship.
Tabal, the current fastest female marathoner in the country, will provide the running prowess for the team, while 18-year old Ocampo, a member of swimming varsity team in University of San Carlos (USC), will kick off with the swim leg.
Uy, who has joined international cycling events, will pedal for the Cebuanos.
“I think we have a big possibility of defending our title this year since the team have strong members, Keith is Cebu’s top swimmer and Uy is a great cyclist,” Tabal said.
The standard individual and relay categories will have a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40K bike and 10K run. (RSC)
