FRESH from winning a gold medal in the 2014 Palarong Pambansa for the Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association (Cviraa), Cebu’s top junior netter Arthur Craig “Iggy” Pantino is now setting his sights on the First Gen Metro Age Group set next week at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Pantino, 13, and the No. 1 in the boys 14 under age group, will be facing the top netters in the Boys 16 and 18-Under division in the Group 1 tournament.
According to Lourdes, the mother of Pantino, her son is the defending champion in the boys 14 under but this year, they decided to let Pantino join the Boys 16 and 18 divisions as part of his preparation for next month’s ATF tennis competition in Malaysia.
“Iggy’s experience in the Palarong Pambansa was memorable and enjoyable. For him, it was not tiring. So ang iya na lang ron is unsaon niya nga ma competitive siya ani na tournament. I hope he will reach the finals. If he wins in the finals, it would be an indication that he is ready for Malaysia,” said Lourdes.
It was a memorable feat for Pantino in the boys singles in the Palarong Pambansa as it was his last year in the elementary division.
Pantino represented the country in the ITF Asia 14 under Development Championship 2014 last March in Phu Tho Tennis Club in Ho Chin Minh, Vietnam together with Zethley Mae “Anday” Alferez.
