TEAM Cebu City Dancesports just got a major boost with the arrival of two instructors from Australia who are here to help the athletes improve their skills and get a chance to earn a living abroad as dance coaches.

Sebastian Cooper and Michelle Robinson, who own the Quick Step Dance Studio in Brisbane, also extended their expertise by joining the volunteer coaches program of the Cebu City Sports Commission’s Summer Grassroots Development Training Program, which is now on its third week.

“Sebastian and Michelle are here to help train our athletes. They are our partners.

They are also part of our volunteer coaches who trained the kids in the baranggays.

Aside from helping us in the training, they helped us in training the athletes speak English, especially the ‘dancesports English,’” CCSC chairman and Cebu dancesports godfather Edward Hayco told Sun.Star Cebu.

The Australians also donated used dancing shoes to the Cebu City athletes.

“They also donated more than a 100 pairs of dance shoes to us. All of them are in good condition, some are good as new. And they opened up opportunity for our athletes to go to Australia to become professional dance instructors and coaches,” Hayco said.

The Australian dance couple lauded CCSC for its active role in reaching out to the kids and teaching them the sport.

“Sebastian and Michelle were awed with the way we brought dancesports to the grassroots level. Dancesports has been the crowd drawer among the sports we teach in the barangays ever since. And they really appreciate our efforts in teaching danceport to the kids,” Hayco said.

Team Cebu City Dancesport has been promoting the sport in the barangay for more than 14 years and one of their brightest products are couple Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Cañeda. The two won the Youth Division gold medal during the Australian World DanceSports Championship last December in Sydney.

Another Australian trainer, Jeffrey Haddelton, was responsible for their entry in the competition.
