Azkals arrive in Maldives, prepare for AFC Cup-A A +A

THE PHL Azkals just arrived in Maldives and are ready to take on the competition this week in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup.
Azkals coach Thomas Dooley has called up 24 players to join the team, which arrived in Maldives yesterday, according to the official Azkals website.
Some of the players that recently suited up against Malaysia in Cebu City are in the team, the likes of Daisuke Sato, Anton del Rosario, Jason de Jong, James Younghusband, Patrick Reichelt, Ruben Doctora Jr., Carlie de Murga, Patrick Deyto, Chris Greatwich, Jerry Lucena, OJ Porteria, Martin Steuble, Simon Rota, Simon Greatwich, Kenshiro Daniels and Amani Aguinaldo.
Phil Younghusband and Juani Guirado’s services have also been tapped, while Neil Etheridge, Rob Gier, Dennis Cagara, Roland Muller, Paul Mulders and Stephan Schrock were given a go signal by their clubs for their international duties.
The Philippines is taking on Afghanistan in its first group stage match on May 21, followed by a match with Laos on the following day. The final group stage match of the Azkals is on May 24 against Turkmenistan.
Philippines is in Group B with Afghanistan, Laos and Turkmenistan, while Group A consists of Maldives, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar.
The winner of the AFC Challenge Cup gets a slot in the AFC Asian Cup in Australia next year to compete with the best in Asia. (EKA)
