A CHANCE to be hired by a PBA team is the ultimate goal of the veterans and hopefuls when they see action in Southern Leyte’s biggest basketball tournament - the St. Isidore Fiesta Cup Basketball tournament in St. Bernard on May 25-28.
The tournament, considered by players and coaches as a “Battle of Champions,” will have veteran center Mark Andaya and Jose Magdadaro and upcoming players Jervie Glorioso and Glenn Bolocon among the few who are hoping to get a chance of playing in the PBA next season.
“Malaki ang maitulong sa tournament na ito, kasi talagang kailangang nasa top condition ka kasi dalawang beses kang maglaro sa isang araw.
Kailangan naming nasa condition baka kasi makakuha ng kontrata sa PBA sa darating na season,” Andaya said in the press conference called by tournament organizer Van Halen Parmis yesterday.
Andaya, Magdadaro, Glorio, Bolocon as well as imports American Shaun Williams and Cameroonian Jean Jacques Manga Hiole will be suiting up for Omega Pro-Avendula urified Water.
Williams is the first Asean Basketball League (ABL) Slam Dunk Champion while Manga plays for Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals in the NCAA.
Also present at the press conference were International Pharmaceutical Inc. (IPI) Omega Pain Killer Brand Manager Garvey Dy and Ads and Promo Supervisor Benjamin Bacaltos.
The other players for the Titing Manalili-mentored Omega Pro-Avendula are PBA players Rudy Lingganay, Jaypee Belencion, ex-pro Jercules Tangkay, and former college standouts Manny Gabas, Benito Ortuyo Jr. and Kevin Cavite.
