CEBU’S top junior netter Arthur Craig “Iggy” Pantino will join the Malacca 4th Asian ATF 14-Under Series from June 2 to 8 in Malaysia.
Pantino, 13, recently won a gold medal in the boys single of the 2014 Palarong Pambansa for the Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association in Laguna and is eyeing his third ATF title after winning two tournaments in Thailand last year.
“Iggy is playing well these days and we believe that he is in top condition. I hope
that he wins his third ATF title in Malacca,” said Lourdes, Pantino’s mother.
This is Pantino’s second international stint. The first was in the ITF Asia 14 under Development Championship 2014 last March in Phu Tho Tennis Club in Ho Chin Minh, Vietnam, together with another player Zethley Mae Alferez of Cebu.
“The ITF tournament is considered the highest level in junior tennis, and Iggy played against some of the Asia’s top seed players. Although, he didn’t win the title during that time, but he and Alferez did a good job and had a decent performance,” said Lourdes.
Before flying to Malaysia, Pantino will play in the First Gen Metro Age Group starting today at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Pantino, the country’s No. 1 in the boys 14 under age group, will play against the
country’s top junior netters in the Boys 16-and 18-under divisions in the Group 1 Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) sanctioned tournament.
“This will be his final tournament before flying to Malaysia,” said Lourdes.
