VINCE Rojo’s performance last Sunday in the second leg of the 2014 Kartzone Superkart Series at Panagdait, proved that his victory over reigning Karter of the Year Jette Calderon in the first leg was no fluke.

It was a neck-and-neck battle between KT 100 expert racers Rojo and Calderon, Rojo won the first heat in 9 minutes 34.737 seconds, while the latter came second at 9:39.695.

Calderon resurfaced to even things in the closely-contested second heat where he clocked at 9:33.365 to win over Rojo who finished in 9:34.611.

The third leg was expected to be intense since the second leg championship honor was at stake, but Calderon suffered a mechanical problem in the third lap.

Positioning

With five more legs in the season, racers are now positioning themselves for the Karter of the Year honor.

“It was a crucial one, since Jette had completed only three laps, he won’t get points for that heat. We have a rule that a racer must complete 50 percent of the laps to get points,” race director Kym Limgenco told Sun.Star Cebu last Sunday, referring to the karters leg points on the race for the season’s overall class winner and Karter of the Year.

“Jette had mechanical problem, particularly in chain of his kart, if he was able to put that back himself or was able to bring the kart in the pit stop himself he could have continued the race, dili man pwede ang marshall mobuhat ato,” Limgenco added.

With that, the Rojo siblings had a 1-2 finish in the KT 100 expert class. Vince
clocked 13:11.121 to take first place, while older brother Joseph finished the third heat in 13:16.851 for second place and Sean Velasco placed third in 13:19.549.

In the KT novice, Jarond Mesina (13:26.427) won over Liam Sacal (13:39.901), while Rei Aleman (8:19.670) won the KT masters.

Formila honda

In the formula honda, Kym Limgenco (15:00.696) technically won the honda expert over Lord Seno (10:05.158), who suffered engine problem in the 17th lap. The honda novice was topped by Norris See (14:30.256), Shane Naidu (14:47.081) came second and Ebb Dicdican (14:48.262) finished third.

The sq cadet was topped by Keon Romoff (7:00.921), Seven Aleman (7:01.479) came second and Khaz Romoff (7:25.538) finished third.

The third leg of 2014 Kartzone Superkart Series will be on June 22 at Kartzone racetrack in Panagdait.
