ONE down and one more to go in Japan for RP team mountain biker Niño Surban.
After the Yawatahama race last weekend, Surban will debut in the Fujimi Panorama MTB race on June 1.
The 27-year-old Talamban, Cebu native clocked 1 hour 50 minutes and 1 second to place ninth in the elite Yawatahama race. Surban has completed his personal target to improve on his last year’s 20th overall rank.
This would be the first time for Surban to compete in Fujimi Panorama MTB.
“These two races are UCI sanctioned events, so you need to have UCI license to join,” Surban told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Surban said Fujimi Panorama will have the same technical section downhill as Yawatahama but with more challenging uphills.
“I think based on the race route, Fujima will be more tiring,” he added.
After his trip to Japan, he is expected to carry the country’s pride as he faces elite national team cyclist from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore in the first leg of Asean MTB Cup on June 13 to 15 at Danao City.
