‘Right formula’-A A +A
Friday, May 30, 2014
AFTER four years of painstaking trials and errors, complaints, frustrations, blood, sweat and tears, the Cebu City Sports Commission has finally found a way to institutionalize its Summer Grassroots Sports Development Program.
CCSC chairman Edward Hayco told Sun.Star Cebu this after the program formally closed with the participants and volunteer coaches and trainers assembled at the Cebu City Sports Center for the culmination of the month-long event.
“After four years of trial and error, we finally got the right formula. We can now confidently say that the baranggay grassroots sports program has reached the level of what we safely call “institutionalized.” It will become a sports advocacy, something people can do to dedicate themselves to the upliftment of sports,” stressed Hayco.
Last Wednesday, the participants showed what they have learned.
Those who trained with karatedo, arnis and taekwondoo had a demonstration, while there was a special tournament for those who learned table tennis, volleyball, archery, boxing, basketball and chess.
CCSC is thankful for the support extended by the Cebu City officials, CCSC Commissioners, Department of Education, teachers, PESS coordinators, volunteer trainers, CCSC staff, IPI, Julie’s Bakeshop and Virginia Foods.
“Thousands came to join in what could be the most successful, genuine and massive grassroots sports program in the Philippines” said Hayco.
CCSC had 400 volunteer athletes who served as coaches and trainers in 17 school districts gymnasiums around the city.
