Chiongbian opens bid for slot to Youth Olympic Games

NATIONAL junior triathlete Justin Chiongbian will carry the country’s colors along with three other Filipino triathletes in the 2014 Burabay ITU Triathlon Asian Youth Olympic Games (YOG) qualifier today in Kazakhstan.

Chiongbian is set to compete in the men’s division along with teammates Ohj Nobles, and Vickie Deldio, the lone female representative for the country.

The three came from 35-day training in Portugal, which started last March.

They trained under Olympic coach Sergio Santos, the former coach of world number 1 Vanessa Fernandez.

The youth Olympic qualifier features a 750-meter swim, 20K bike and 3K run.

The triathletes who will make the cut will qualify to the 2014 YOG triathlon event in Nanjing, China later this year. (RSC)
