AFTER two legs in the 2014 Kartzone Superkart Series, Vince Rojo bolstered his chance for the coveted Karter of the Year honor as he topped the first leg last April 27 and second leg last May 25 at Kartzone race track in Panagdait.
Rojo, the last year’s KT novice class champion, joined this year in the KT expert class. Early on the karting season, he is leading in the KOY series points with 107 total accumulated points-- 55 points in the first leg and 52 points in the second leg.
He won the KT expert class on the first two legs that gave him enough points to lead.
Rojo earlier said that being able to compete in the KT expert class is a humbling challenge for him.
“I hope for a great season ahead, especially in competing with great racers like Jette Calderon and Sean Velasco,” Rojo earlier told Sun.Star Cebu.
Jette Calderon, the reigning Karter of the Year, placed second in the standing with a total of 69 KOY series points. He got 39 in the first leg and 30 points in the second leg. He had a mechanical problem early in the final heat of the second leg that caused him dearly. Not only he did he not get KOY points for that heat but also lost the chance to win the leg.
Sean Velasco is third in the standing with 57 points, followed by Jarond Mesina and Liam Sacal with 50 and 38 points apiece.
The race to the top continues in the third leg of the 2014 Superkart Karting Series on June 22 at Kartzone.
