Arum to meet Marquez for rematch-A A +A
Thursday, June 5, 2014
WITH the end of the promotional cold war between rival companies Top Rank Inc. and Golden Boy Promotions, Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao has more options for his next opponent for his ring return in November in Macau.
Because a match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. still remains a dream, a rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez is still the top priority.
“Marquez will be here tomorrow (today),” Top Rank head Bob Arum told Boxing Scene in New York. “We brought him here. I don’t want to be racist or anything, because it’s not racist. But you can’t really talk to a Mexican on a phone about a deal. You’ve got to sit him in front of you; you’ve got to look at his face. That’s pretty much with all people, but particularly with Mexicans, particularly if there is a language barrier – even though he can speak English. So until I can see really where he is going or thinking, I’m as lost as anybody.”
