Cebuanas at the helm-A A +A

THE Cebuanas immediately made an impact for the Philippines in the opening day of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-14 Regional Championship last Tuesday, spearheading the offense of a dominant 6-0 victory over Singapore at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
Forward Itsuko Bacatan and midfielder Arantxa Mari Trebol combined for three of the Philippines’ six goals in the match.
The Philippines broke the lull in the 10th minute with a goal by Joyce Semancio.
Bacatan then made her presence felt in the 23rd, followed by a goal by fellow Cebuana Trebol in the 46th minute.
Sharifah Khaliesah made a crucial mistake and scored an own goal for a commanding 4-0 lead for the Philippines.
Coming in for Anika Velez in the 61st minute, substitute Francesca Suerte swiftly added her name to the scorers’ tally in the 68th.
Bacatan then put the icing on the cake in the 72nd minute.
Vietnam thrashed Cambodia, 8-0, in the other Group A match.
The Philippines was up against Vietnam for the top spot as of press time, while Cambodia was taking on Singapore.
Before the matches yesterday, Vietnam had the slim lead of Group A with three points and was just ahead by two in goal differential over the Philippines, which also had three points. Singapore and Cambodia were on the bottom half with no points.
On the other hand, Thailand leads Group B with three points, followed by Myanmar and then Malaysia. The group only has three teams.
The top two teams of each group moves on to the semifinals.
