LOUJEI Tipgos looks to extend his winning run in the Cebu City Sports Commission Beach Volleyball Tournament as the event’s third leg kicks off today at the Fort Sand Court at the Plaza Independencia.
Tipgos, who won the last leg the other month, is hoping to duplicate his victory.
He, however, is expecting a tough challenge from other top players from Cebu like Jade Becaldo and Rommel Pepito, who also signed up for the event.
“They are both strong and they pose great threats to the crown. But I will play my best tomorrow and I hope I will top it again,” said Tipgos. Tipgos added that no matter how good a player is, with the King of the Beach format, it’s not easy to win.
“It’s not just about winning but earning more points in every game you play. That’s what makes this tournament unpredictable and exciting,” said Tipgos.
The tournament follows the King of Beach format, where players are paired up with different teammates per game. They earn points per game and whoever comes out with the most points after the tournament will win the title.
In the last leg, Tipgos scored 63 points, while Becaldo came in second with 50 points.
Becaldo had represented the country in a couple of tournaments in the Asian Volleyball Confederation beach volleyball circuit early this year, when he played side by side with Edward Ybañez.
Pepito, a mainstay of the Southwestern University (SWU) beach volleyball team, is a rising superstar in the local beach volleyball community, who has helped steer SWU to several titles.
“Pepito is fast on the sand court and dili siya ka compyansahan gyud, he is really tough,” said Tipgos. (ISL)
