DIGOS CITY — Boxing hero Manny Pacquiao is standing firm on his decision to join the PBA Rookie Draft on Aug. 24.
Pacquiao, who is eyeing to be the third playing coach in the 40-year-old league, said he is unmoved by criticism on his latest athletic pursuit.
“Bale wala na sa akin yun (criticisms). Magpa draft ko this August. Then mag playing coach ko sa Kia Motors. We will have a very competitive team.
Sa pagkakaron dili pa ko makasulti kon kinsa ang among players kay nag-paabot pa man mi sa Dispersal Draft sa second week of July,” Pacquiao told Sun.Star Cebu.
Pacquiao is known to play basketball during a break in his training sessions.
“We will be known as Kia Kamao. And gipaniguro ko na dili maka-apekto ang akong basketball sa akong pag ensayo sa boxing ug sa akong trabaho as a congressman of Saranggani Province,” Pacquiao added.
He had played some games with defunct leagues such as the Mindanao-Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) and the Liga Pilipinas, where he even had a team.
He also had a couple of games with Cebu sportswriters and had also played with his team in a few tournaments in General Santos City.
He will be joining the ranks of basketball greats Robert Jaworski and Ramon Fernandez who became playing coaches in the league.
However, he could miss the Kamao’s debut game as he will be in deep training for his upcoming fight on Nov. 23 which was scheduled in Macau.
“Wala pa nahibaloan kinsa akong kontra but naka reserve na ang Nov. 23, sa Macau naka-reserve. Maybe mga next week or sa third week sa July mahibal-an kinsa akong ma kontra kay nahospital man gud si Bob (Arum) mao wala pa namo na naestoryahan,” Pacquiao said. RCM
