Blame the rain-A A +A

DIGOS CITY — Disappointment was written all over the faces of Team Cebu City Boxing following the unlikely exit of Marco Pomar in the quarterfinal round of the Youth Boys Light Flyweight (49kgs) division in the PLDT-ABAP National Amateur Boxing Championships held at the city’s public plaza yesterday.
Pomar’s exit was controversial as he still had a good chance of beating Cagayan de Oro’s Jovane Casem in the final round.
However, their fight was stopped at the end of the second when rain poured inside the ring from the seams of improvised canopies, rendering it unfit for use.
The match was pretty close as Pomar won the first round via 10-9 scores from the three judges and Casem took round 2 with the same scores.
However, the judges gave the match to the Cagayan de Oro puncher during the vote to determine the winner.
“Disappointed ko. Pero rules man na. Di na man nato malalis. Siguro mas gipaboran siya sa judges kay iya man ang Round 2. Makadaug pa man unta ko ato kon padayon pa ang fight kay nahutdan na man to siya og hangin sa katapusan sa Round 2,” Pomar told Sun.Star Cebu.
After giving Pomar his best shots in the second round, Casem looked spent and tired as he returned to his corner for a one minute rest, when referee Cildo Evasco of Baguio City told them the match was over.
Delegation officials led by TCC-Boxing head coach Efren Tabanas tried to appeal but the judges’ decision stood.
The matches resumed nearly two hours from its stoppage.
Pomar was the second casualty for the 7-man Cebu City line-up.
First to fall was Joe Paul John Tanudra, who lost to J-Mar Jaga of Bago City via split decision, in the School Boys Paperweight (44kgs) division.
Pomar’s younger brother Marvin however advanced to the semifinal round after eliminating Edgar Gaviola of Team PacMan via unanimous decision in the Jr. Boys Pinweight (46kgs) category quarterfinal match.
Five Cebu City fighters will try to get into the gold medal round in the semifinal round today.
Peter Monilar Jr. will make his first ring appearance as he fights Milenino Anduyan of Leyte in the School Boys light pinweight (46kgs) category; Marvin Pomar will fight Carlo Paalam of Cagayan de Oro City; and Kit Ceron Garces will fight Jeffrey Orello of Maasin City in the Jr. Boys Flyweight (50kgs) division.
