THE last time Alcoy FC and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) met, it was in a football match that ended in a brawl. Punches were thrown, spectators entered the field, players were hurt. It was mayhem.

Fortunately it seems both sides have buried the hatchet with SHS-AdC reaching out by visiting Alcoy last Saturday to hold a football clinic and some exhibition matches with Primary Group of Builders.

SHS-AdC came in full force with players, parents and coaches for the trip.

“We had a mix of Under-17, Under-14 and Under-12 players, parents and our coaches with me as head of the trip,” SHS-AdC athletic director Rico Navarro said.

A total of 150 kids ages eight to 17 years old from different schools took part in the basic football course.

The goal of the visit was to promote football in the grassroots in the Alcoy area. It also served as avenue for reconciliation between both clubs.

Alcoy FC and SHS-AdC played against each other in a friendly, while Primary Football Club also played against both clubs.

Aside from the exhibition matches and clinic, the Primary Group donated football equipment to Alcoy FC and promised to continue its support in the development of football in the area.

Last March 15, the Under-18 division match between SHS-AdC and Alcoy FC ended in a brawl. Spectators joined in the fray, which resulted in players getting hurt.

Photos of the incident broke out in social media and it resulted in the Cebu Football Association (CFA) slapping spectators and players alike with sanctions.
