Peñalosa brothers in 1 card-A A +A
Thursday, July 10, 2014
BROTHERS Dodie Boy and Dave Peñalosa will fight side-by-side once again in one boxing event on July 26 at the Mandaluyong City Gym.
Dodie Boy Jr. returns to the ring following a long layoff to take on Indonesian Yon Armed in the main event, while The younger sibling, Dave, slugs it out with fellow Filipino prospect Danilo Gabisay in the undercard.
The 23-year-old Dodie Boy Jr. has not fought for over seven months. His last fight was in December, when he walked away with a technical decision over Mexican Alem Robles after suffering a huge cut on his right eyelid in the seventh round.
Armed, on the other hand, is coming off back-to-back knockout losses to Japanese Kenichi Ogawa and one-time world title contender Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo.
Dodie Boy Jr. is 12-0 with 11 knockouts, while Armed is 11-5-1 with six knockouts.
Like his brother, Dave also fought that same Mexican, Robles, in his last fight in March. He beat him by unanimous decision.
Gabisay should be a good test for Dave. He is a hungry 22-year-old fighter that has faced promising prospects like Jack Tepora and Rex Wao.
Dodie Boy Jr. and Dave are the sons of former International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight and light flyweight champion Dodie Boy Peñalosa Sr.
Dave is 8-0 with five knockouts, while Gabisay is 5-2 with three knockouts.
The event also features an exciting bout between former world title challenger Bernabe Concepcion (32-6-1, 18 KOs) and Eden Sonsona (32-6-1, 10 KOs).
