BRIAN Viloria showed he is still a force to be reckoned with in the flyweight division following an impressive fifth-round finish over former world title contender Jose Alfredo Zuniga last Saturday night at the Cotai Arena in Macau.

The 33-year-old Viloria ended Zuniga’s night with a left hook to the body that dropped the Mexican to the canvas. He was counted out by referee Danrex Tapdasan in the 1:42 mark of the fifth.

Viloria improved to 34-4 with 20 knockouts, while Zuniga dropped to 11-6-1 with five knockouts.

With the win, Viloria is a step closer to getting another crack for a world title. He is currently rated fourth in the World Boxing Association (WBA), sixth in the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and seventh in the International Boxing Federation (IBF).

Last year, Viloria lost his WBA and WBO titles following a unanimous decision loss to Juan Francisco Estrada.

World-rated Filipino super flyweight Mark Anthony Geraldo scored a unanimous decision over Mexican Efrain Perez in the undercard.

All three judges saw Geraldo winning, 57-55, 58-54 and 58-54.

Geraldo has won 10 straight bouts and improved to 31-4-3 with 14 knockouts, while Perez dropped to 17-5 with 12 knockouts.

Geraldo is currently rated third in the WBO super flyweight division, which has Omar Narvaez as the current titleholder.

Light heavyweight Mike Mirafuente wasn’t as fortunate as his countrymen as he was stopped at the end of third round by former Olympic gold medalist Egor Mekhontsev.
