HIGH school competition is an open race and promised more excitement than the cancelled competition last year.

The Cebu Eastern College Dragons, which was earlier reported to skip the season, managed to beat the deadline and submitted a full 15-man line-up to join the other powerhous squads Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, University of the Visayas Baby Lancers and the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors, University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers, University of Cebu Baby Webmasters, Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildkittens, University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars and Don Bosco Technological Center Greywolves.

Basketball pundits however, believed that the heavy title favorites narrowed down to only three teams – the Magis Eagles, the Baby Lancers and the Baby Warriors.

But the Dragons will be out to prove that they are on the same league even if only Richmond Buli-Buli is the only returnee from the last year’s line-up.

Playing for CEC this year are Jess Eduard Astillero, Lance Jefferson Alcaraz, Carl Emmanuel Cinco, John Kirk De la Sierra, Laurence Anthony Dellona, Matt Benedict Empleo, Jess Andre Gabutero, Rayen Clarenz Manila, Ivan Augustine Mate, Johanne Miguel Orillaneda, Jon Kym Reguero, Kirchie Dave Sullano, Vince Ryan Tecson and Garnird Leopoldo.

UV Baby Lancers

Returning for UV this year are John Carl Escalona, Theo Joshua Flores, Orlan Wamar, Marvin Oche, Dominic Moore, Raul Jancork Cabahug and James Eduard Zenarosa.

Compleing the Baby Lancers’ line-up are Ramish Alforque, Kristofer Niño Borbon, Klient Cabañero, Arkinz Loreto, Jasaint Clark Maglasang, Adryan Padilla, Samuel Schaub and Dove Jone Verano.

Coach Rommel Rasmo on the other hand will lean mainly on Zachary Lance Eden Huang, Felixberto Jabonita IV, Steven Co, Joseph Mayol and Anton Bennet Chua – his holdover from last year’s line-up.

Sacred Heart

Making it to the Magis Eagles’ roster are Anton Niño Araw-Araw, Phil Renzo Calumpang, Adrison Gaviola, Jose Piero Dominic Longa, Kevin Brian Johnson, Travis Jelour Mantua, Emilio Jeremy Nacua, Joshua Sinclair, Andrew Vincent Velasco and Alex Roeland Visser.

Baby Warriors

The Baby Warriors on the other hand will be praying Britt Reroma’s stint in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) would be shorter, so he can return to their fold the soonest as possible, and help them in the bid to make the finals new.

However, losing vital players Scott Aying and John Galinato to Chiang Kai Shek College Blue Dragons of Manila means more hardwork is needed to achieve the team’s goal.

Returning to USC’s line-up are Jean-Jacque Antigua, Kent John Malazarte and Marc Andre Ting while its new players include Ralph Garrick Bande, Robert Hugh Bolick, Neon Jan Chavez, Joseph Echiverri, Francis Edmar Galao, Joshua Daniel Laurente, Chico Maravilla, Jholo Pakanna, Ramon Sayson, Louise Sevilla, Briedyyn Smith and Harmony Sususco.
