Blue Devils outsmart Tigers, 64-59

THE CONVERGYS 2 Blue Devils remained the only unbeaten team following a fourth-quarter escape over the Wipro Tigers, 64-59, in the Division 2 action of the 2014 CSCC E-Leagues Season X held at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym last Sunday.

Trailing in most part of the hotly contested game, the Blue Devils dropped a searing 19-9 blitz in the final period to score its eighth win in as many games behind the heroics of Sherwin Anghay who had an MVP-like performance by scoring 13 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, dishing out six assists and pulling three steals.

The Blue Devils displayed a well-oiled defense and offense as they out-rebounded the Tigers, 39-35; made more assists 21-13; had 12-5 steals and blocked 5-1 shots.

Sherwin Resilla also had huge contributions by scoring 11 and grabbing seven rebounds for Convergys 2.

Franz Martinez had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Reinario Salibay Jr. added 10 points for Wipro’s third loss in eight games.

The SSI Warriors, meanwhile, banked on a strong two middle quarters performance to hand Teletech Titans a 57-49 defeat.

After allowing the Titans to drop a 20-9 lead in the opening quarter, SSI outscored Teletech 37-16, in the next two quarters and withered the fourth quarter effort of the Titans, and scored its sixth win in nine games.

Rex Alison and Dennis Poquita scored 14 points each, Robert Espinoza had 11 and Lawrence Agas scored 10 for SSI while Jonas Concepcion scored the game high 19 points as the Titans suffered its sixth loss in eight games.

In the other games, Eperformax Reds on the other hand survived the 24 points explosion of Earvin Ferraren to score a 59-55 win over the Xerox Knights and ASI Hardbacks withered the 20 points outburst of Ariel Edera with a 54-48 win over the Kyocera Frontiers.

Eperformax’s win gave them a strong hold of the second place in Division 2 as they improved to 7-1 while Xerox dropped to 4-4 and ASI improved to 5-3 as Kyocera dropped to, 4-3.
