Cebu City to host Batang Pinoy

Saturday, March 21, 2015

CEBU City will host the Batang Pinoy national finals on Nov. 27 to Dec. 2.

“We’re hosting the Batang Pinoy National Finals 2015 on Nov. 27 to Dec. 2, 2015. This is what we have been after and we are given the courtesy to host this multi-sports event,” Cebu City Sports Commission Chairman Ed Hayco told Sun.Star Cebu.

CCSC wanted a repeat of its conquest last year when they won 52 golds, 41 silvers and 45 bronze medals in Bacolod City for the overall title.

The hosting means Cebu City athletes can send as many athletes as it wants to field since the host team athletes are given automatic entry to the national finals.

Athletes from the different part of the county will need to go through the qualifiers. Malolos, Bulacan will host the Luzon qualifiers on July 20-25, while Romblon will host the Luzon qualifiers on Sept. 21-26. Koronadal City will host the Mindanao qualifiers on Oct. 24 to 26.

The top three finishers in both the individual and doubles events and the top two finishers in the team events in the qualifiers will advance to the national Finals.

Financially, Cebu City won’t have to worry since PSC is giving subsidy of P1,500 for the meals and P1,500 for the transportation for all the qualified athletes and their coaches.

All CCSC need to worry is the preparation of the venues, facilities and billeting, which will involved the different public schools in Cebu City.

A total of 33 sports events will be competed in the tournament-- archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, billiards, boxing, chess, cycling, dancesport, futsal, gymnastics, judo, karatedo, lawn tennis, muay thai, pencak silat, rugby, football, sailing, shooting, soft tennis, softball, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.
