USPF aims for upset over UV tonight

Monday, September 26, 2016

THE University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars will try to end the elimination round of the college division on a positive note as they take on separate foes in the 2016 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) at the Cebu Coliseum tonight.

The Lancers (7-4) will face the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers(3-8) at 5:15 p.m., while the Jaguars (8-3) play the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats (1-10) at 6:45 p.m.

Last Sunday, defending champions University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors finished their elimination round by scoring a repeat against the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 75-68.

USC finished the elimination round with a 6-6 record, just enough to earn a twice-to-beat advantage against the No.5 team, which could be USPF it it wins tonight. But if UV wins, UC, which has a 3-9 record, will finish as the No. 5 team.

The Panthers scored a thrilling 83-81 overtime win against the Wildcats last Saturday to get a fighting chance for the No. 5 spot.
