Monday, June 19, 2017

ROLANDO Dy and Carls John de Tomas had a rude awakening in their Octagon debut after losing their bouts last Friday night in the undercard of UFC Singapore at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Dy, the son of former boxing world champion Rolando Navarrete, was stopped by UFC veteran Alex Caceres before the start of the third round.

Caceres caught Dy with a left straight that apparently hurt his right eye. The 28-year-old former Ultimate Fighter contestant dropped Dy with a right-left combination. He attempted a guillotine choke and then transitioned to the back with a rear-naked choke attempt but Dy defended well.

Dy showed a ton of heart, continuing to trade with Caceres despite problems with his vision. The referee had his eye checked by the physician in the second round and the bout continued with Dy’s willingness to fight on. After a vicious exchange, Dy caught Caceres’ kick and took him down. He climb on his back and attempted a rear-naked choke but to no avail.

With Dy’s eye still squinting, the referee waved the fight off before the start of the third.

Dy was upset by the decision and dropped down to the floor. Caceres consoled him on the mat and hugged him.

De Tomas, in the meantime, was outclassed by unbeaten Japanese prospect Naoki Inoue by. Unanimous decision.

All three judges scored it 30-27 for the 20-year-old Inoue.
De Tomas, a former URCC champion, suffered his first career defeat and dropped to 8-1, while Inoue remained unbeaten with 11-0. EKA
